FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How old do I have to be?

To work in the Sex Industry in Australia, you must be over 18 years old.

Can I work legally in the sex industry in Australia?

Each state in Australia has different laws. Here in Victoria, working in the Sex Industry is fully legal. Brothel and Escort Agency owners must hold a government-issued license.

Do I have to be Australian?

No. Women from all over the world are welcome. However, if you’re from overseas, you must have a valid visa that allows you to work in Australia.

Must I surrender my passport to a brothel owner?

Never! If you’re from overseas and have the correct visa, you must keep your passport safe. You should always be free to come and go as you please. Payment must be made to you before each job, and no one should hold your money unless you request it.

Do I get to choose my clients?

Yes, absolutely. You have the right to choose who you see. A brothel license does not give owners control over your decisions or boundaries.

What is the relationship between me and the brothel owner?

In licensed Victorian brothels, service providers are effectively self-employed. The brothel owner rents out rooms to clients, while working ladies provide their personal services directly to those clients.
